Cheng Hsien Tan Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience to fight world hunger and poverty through child sponsorship programs. Central Idea: The world has a huge problem with poverty and hunger and this problem could be immensely downsized if everyone that has a little extra money sponsors a child. Pattern of Organization: Problem-Solution Introduction I. (Attention Getter): How many of you see poverty and hunger as a problem in our world? How many of you think that you cannot feasibly help solve this problem? II. According to that same report, more than a third of child deaths are attributable to under nutrition. Connective (Transition): As you can see, global child poverty is a huge problem in our world today and I will now share with you one solution that you can take part in to help fix this problem. II. By sponsoring a child through a child sponsorship program, you can directly make an impact on that child’s life, family, community, and even the world. A. Child sponsorship consists of a few main steps. 1. Select an organization to sponsor a child through. a. There are many organizations that do offer child sponsorship including World Vision, Compassion Ministries, Food for the Hungry, and many more. b. A lot of these organizations are very similar but usually have a slight difference in the cost of sponsorship, the location of the children to sponsor, and slight differences into where they place the money. c. Do some research and determine which organizations you think would best benefit the child or community. 2. Select the child you are going to sponsor. a. All of the programs th at I have looked at have featured children to sponsor on their site.
